Albert TERMOTE (Lichtervelde, 1887 - Voorburg, 1978)
Albert Termote was originally a Belgian artist who spent most of his career in the Netherlands. Termote learned the art of woodcarving from his father during his youth in Lichtervelde in West Flanders, after which he was educated in Ghent. During the Second World War he ended up as a refugee in Amsterdam, where he followed a training course with Jan Bronner. In 1922 he moved to Voorburg, where he would live for the rest of his life. He taught woodcarving and sculpture here and became a member of the Pulchri Studio, whose exhibitions featured his work. He also taught at the Royal Academy in The Hague and is seen as an artist of the New Hague School. His most important works are four equestrian statues scattered in the Netherlands, many religious works in churches and portraits. These works can be seen in the Rijksmuseum and the Kröller-Muller Museum, among others.
