Anton ROOSKENS (Horst 1906 - Amsterdam 1976)
Education
Anton Rooskens was an autodidact as a painter. However, from 1924 to 1934 he was educated at the technical school in Venlo. After this Anton Rooskens was apprenticed to an instrument builder.
Biography
Lives and works in Amsterdam since 1935
Anton Rooskens was one of the founders of the Experimental Group in Holland. This group later became the Cobra group. In addition to his work as a painter, Anton Rooskens was also a metal teacher at the technical school. Because of his permanent appointment he was able to provide the other Cobra members with paint and canvas. Anton Rooskens was not associated with Cobra for long, but the movement is clearly reflected in his work. Rooskens paints strongly expressionistic works in which fantasy animals often appear, typical Cobra characteristics.
