Christie van der Haak paints the connection between order and chaos. With grace and ease she weaves completely different patterns together. The viewer sees a wonderful jigsaw puzzle of contradictory fragments that, however, together form a unit. It is the image of this time, in which unity has been replaced by multiplicity. The fragments are related, together they make up the world of which the world in the painting is a part. The use of patches of patterns (suggesting multiple layers) seems to come from Cubist collage. The use of different vanishing points also points in that direction. Christie van der Haak wants to understand tradition. Her paintings are full and show, in addition to a multitude of shapes, an explosion of colors, coming from all corners of her palette.
