Gille's first training was a teacher training for arts education. Then, in addition to teaching, he attended the Institut für Malerie und Graphik in Marburg for three years. From 1972 to 1976 he followed a course in the graphic design department at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch.
Gille lives and works in Heusden.
In the Netherlands, Dick Cassée and Eduard Flor were important teachers for Gille. In Germany, however, Gille's love for Italy arose, partly through his teacher Gertraude Lowien, who was trained there. Gille still regularly travels to Tuscany to draw inspiration from the landscape and to work in his studio there. He works with a unique intaglio technique, which he developed himself: after applying paint to a wooden plate, he deepens the images on that surface. This creates a relief that accepts ink and gives a print.
