Herman BIELING (Rotterdam 1887 - Rhoon 1964)
Bieling was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. He later became a member and co-founder of the avant-garde group De Branding. This group aimed against the 'bourgeois mediocrity' of what was generally seen in exhibitions at the time. In that period he mainly made cubist work, with landscapes, still lifes and people as main subjects. Bieling lived and worked as a sculptor, graphic artist, draftsman and painter in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany and England. His work is represented in the collections of the Boymans van Beuningen museum, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and the Centraal Museum Utrecht.
