Jaap Stellaart (1920-1992) was an artist with a decidedly reflective attitude. He was known as an introverted, ironic and critical man. As a young artist Stellaart went into nature together with Aart Roos and drew landscapes. However, he soon became inspired by the work of painters such as Paul Klee and Kandinsky. Corneille's influence is also clearly noticeable in Stellaart's mathematically constructed abstracts.
