Jan Olyslager (1926-2010, The Hague) studied from 1946 at the Royal Academy of Art (where he was a student of Henk Meijer) and later at the Free Academy. He was inspired by Willem Hussum, Piet Ouborg and Wim Sinemus. In 1955, in search of new paths, he opted for the informal in art. Driven by intu_int, he enters into a dialogue with the flat surface. Dynamics is a recognizable aspect in most of his works. Appreciation was always there, but the real recognition only comes when he has already passed the age of sixty-five and there is a lot of demand for his work. He receives the Willem van Collum Prize and a nomination for the royal subsidy.
