Koos de Bruin (Gouda 1941 - Gouda 1992)
Koos de Bruin was born in Gouda and has always lived and worked there. After a short period of studying at the Royal Academy in The Hague, he decided in 1967 to continue as an autodidact. His early work is figurative. From the late 1970s his paintings become more expressive and rough, related to Cobra in the Netherlands and to Georg Baselitz and the Neue Wilden in Germany. His Later etchings show a relationship with the work of Anton Heijboer. But everything with a completely own developed style. Koos had many exhibitions at home and abroad. In 1978 he became an active member of Pulchri Studio in The Hague and received the Jacob Hartog Prize there in 1987. The exhibition Out of Africa in the Cobra museum in Amstelveen in 2004 included a large number of works by Koos de Bruin.
