Leo GESTEL (Woerden 1881 - Hilversum 1941)
Leo Gestel was a Dutch painter and graphic artist who mainly derived influence from Fauvism. He studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and also worked in Woerden, Bergen (NH) and Belgium. In Bergen he was influenced by the Bergen School. During his life his style moved more and more towards abstraction, without becoming really abstract. Works by Gestel are on display in most major museums in the Netherlands.
