Marius BAUER

Born in The Hague in 1867, died in Amsterdam in 1932.
Education:
Marius Bauer was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts The Hague.
He lived and worked in several countries in Africa, Asia and Europe.
Marius Bauer is a Dutch oretalist, he traveled a lot to Asia, Africa, Russia, etc. Here he made sketches that he used at home for a large number of works. His style was both impressionistic and Hague school. In his own time Bauer was a well-known artist, he himself was compared to the master painter Rembrandt for his loose and smooth way of working both in his etchings and watercolors. Today, much attention is once again being paid to the Orientalists, and thus to the oeuvre of Marius Bauer.

Marius Bauer in his time has won many awards. Below is a small selection: Several awards from the Academy of Fine Arts, The Hague. Appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau, 1901 Medal 1st class Fine Arts Department, World Exhibition, Antwerp, 1894.
