PETER WIEMERS was born in 1923 in Hoogwoud (Netherlands). After studying within the 'Order of the Jesuit Fathers', Peter Wiemers was ordained to the priesthood in 1955 and started working in the corporate apostolate, for example at KLM and then as a student pastor in Maastricht. He wants to see more of the world and leaves in 1960 as a missionary/missionary to the Brazilian Belo Horizonte. He soon started giving painting lessons to children in his spare time. Ten years later, he decided to devote himself entirely to art and art education. His vocation for art and a choice for 'laymanship' became increasingly stronger and in 1977 Peter Wiemers asked for and was released from his priestly obligations. He builds an art school with a children's home. He finances that project by painting countless portraits of the wealthy of Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. In Brazil he has become a great and well-known artist mainly through portrait commissions.
In 1988 he returns to his native region in the Netherlands. His paintings are characterized by light, cheerful colours. They can therefore be called exuberant, whether it concerns his portraits or his still lifes. “In word and in images he is looking for harmony. It is mainly light and cheerful colors that predominate. Not exuberant, sometimes even modest in the elaboration, his paintings tell how he has been searching all his life for the source of existence”. Until old age, Peter Wiemers continued to paint and gave painting lessons. Peter Wiemers passed away on April 16, 2011 at the age of 88.
