Artist of the Mooi INDIE school, who was born in 1900. MOOI INDIE is the Dutch name of the pre-war school of Indonesian artists. Many of these painters worked for the Dutch East Indies who liked to bring a visible memory to the Netherlands. Nationalist Indonesian artists often looked down on these "collaborative" artists. In other words: the School was associated with the Dutch colonizer. Interesting that President Sukarno was a great admirer of the Beautiful Indies School and owned a lot of its work (Source: Prof. Dr. W. Baerdewijck).
