VIKTOR IV (Walter Carl Gluck), 1929-1986. From 1961 until his death in 1986, a striking character lived and worked in Amsterdam, an artist who called himself Viktor IV (pronounced 'four' in English). lived in primitive conditions on an old freighter that was moored in the middle of the city, in the Amstel near the Blauwbrug. The ship became well known for being covered with all kinds of structures, with flags and pennants, and surrounded by overgrown rafts with huts and a whole menagerie from ducks and chickens to colorfully dressed cats. Inscriptions attracted attention with texts such as 'WHO NEEDS THE PACIFIC OCEAN' or 'THE SECOND QUALITY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY', or 'THE TIME IS ALWAYS NOW'. From the stern fluttered a Dutch flag with 'THANK YOU AMSTERDAM' on it in stencil letters. He stamped each sheet with the date and the number of the month, counted from April 1964. Many thousands of sheets were printed, mostly with typed texts (Viktor liked to write fluently) and provided with drawings. The lyrics consist of stories, memories, comments on what happened to him, anecdotes, fables and whatever else came to his mind. He called them "Logbook pages" and, although they were loose pages, he bundled them into folders he called "books" and gave titles like "The big Fool", "Thank you Silent Sun", "The Post is a perhaps" , 'Who can betray the Sun' or 'The Truth always happens'.source; website victor IV , rkd
