Willem van LEUSDEN (Utrecht 1886 - Utrecht1974)

Education: Van Leusden was educated from 1902 to 1906 at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and from 1907 to 1910 at the State Academy of Art in Amsterdam. Van Leusden has worked in Utrecht, Groningen, The Hague, Amsterdam, Belgium and Amiens, among others.
Van Leusden received the royal subsidy for young artists for three years. He initially made realistic images, but later switched to surrealistic art through abstract work (in the tradition of De Stijl). He belonged to the core surrealist artists who were active in Utrecht from 1930 to 1950. Van Leusden taught in Utrecht from 1916 to 1924 at the Applied Arts School and then at the Evening School for Art and Industrial Education. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam, of the Haagse Kunstkring and an honorary member of Kunstliefde and De Luis. Moreover, he was an honorary member of Utrecht.
