Education:
Van Malsen studied Dutch and then started to develop as a visual artist. He started as a political cartoonist for Vrij Nederland, and in Paris for the French anarchist magazine L'Enrage.
After this Willem van Malsen developed as a versatile artist, he started painting, photographing, illustrating, writing and filming and developed techniques such as dechirure (cracks). Van Malsen has a unique position in Dutch art history and his oeuvre can be seen as a long experiment in form, in which he applied many movements and influences in his own way, making use of the most diverse materials and techniques. Van Malsen illustrated books for, among others, Person van Keulen, Cees Nooteboom, Gerrit Komrij.
Willem van Malsen's work has been exhibited in Amsterdam and Paris.
