Artist

Wim Helder was born in The Hague in 1892 and died in Hattem in 1966. Son and student of the painter Joh. Bright. Lived and worked in Amsterdam, The Hague, Paris, Utrecht, Geleen, Middelburg, Apeldoorn. Student of the Applied Arts School in Utrecht and of the 'Art Love' society there. Studied for 2 years in Paris 1922-1924. Painted and drew excellent portraits and figures (peasant and folk types); landscapes, flowers, etc. painted in expressionist style. He taught among others H. Bunt. (Source: Scheen) Wim Helder learned the trade from his father, the painter Helder. Vader Helder was a painter of interiors and genre scenes and it seems that he in turn was apprenticed to Jozef Israels. Wim Helder also took lessons at the Applied Arts School in Utrecht and in the years 1922-1924 he studied in Paris. He is perhaps best known for his accurately drawn and painted portraits of all kinds of folk types.
