1922 - 2011. Wim Riem was born in 1922 in Rotterdam and already as a student of primary school he proved to have a special talent for drawing and painting. With this he fulfilled no wish of his father, a deserving sculptor. He wanted to do the same for his son Wim, but he chose to draw. At the age of 13 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, where he was taught by Professor Heiboer. Many harbor views date from that time. Lessons from Anton Pieck steered Wim in the direction that would later characterize him. During the war he got to know a boy from Almelo and through him he later ended up in Twente. There he ended up in the paint factory of Sikkens. His own studio arose from his acquaintance with hotelier H. van der Maas, who managed to persuade him to come to Ootmarsum. In 1975 he set up his Twentsch Print Room in a building on the Grotestraat. He thus had the first art gallery in Ootmarsum; an example that has since been followed by many. After five years he moved to the monumental building of Rikmanspoel on the Denekamperstraat. There his work became (inter)nationally known.
