The painter Henk Dekker was born in The Hague in 1897 and lived there most of his life. He became known for sea and beach scenes painted in an impressionistic style, with fishermen and ships. For this he found inspiration along the Dutch coast, but he also traveled along the Mediterranean Sea and along the coasts of Brittany, Belgium, England and Sweden. Henk Dekker received advice from HJ van der Weele and further trained himself. He lived and worked in The Hague, but has also made many trips abroad, in addition to England and Sweden, including to France and Morocco. In the 1930s his use of color changed and his familiar bluish-grey tone prevailed in his work. Dekker was a member of the Dutch art circle.
