Alexis Gorodine (1944, Malicone, France) trained at the Atelier d'Urbanisme in Martinique, Atelier de Calevaert-Brun and Atelier Sauve-qui-Peut in Paris.
He traveled and lived for a long time in Africa, South America and North America. These countries and living in New York have profoundly shaped the artist's thinking. Gorodine combines a mystical atmosphere with earthly warmth. The erosion of matter and the primal power of language and primitive signs are his themes. The artist achieved world fame with his beautiful, sober etchings and lithographs, which are produced by the artist in exceptional quality. Gorodine creates recognizable shapes in simple planes and lines, limiting himself in his work to the core of things.
