Allaert van Everdingen - Three etchings with defects

Allaert van Everdingen 1621-1675 Two etchings, one with mezzotint 1. Evening landscape: the large rock above the river (=Hollstein, Dutuit 31-5). Remarkable etching with a number of special light effects. With mezzotint, very rare in Van Everdingen's work. Despite the darkness, the activities in the foreground, the house on the shore and the boat in the fjord are clearly distinguishable. The signature ave, which in Van Everdingen's work is usually at the bottom of the image, is invisible, possibly included in the many dark lines. Mezzotint has been applied to the sky and the water of the fjord in the background. Image size 10 x 13 cm, 2 to 3 mm to the press edge, with a paper margin of 10 to 12 mm beyond that. Between contour line and press edge slightly spotty from the printing, otherwise completely clean and intact, both front and back. 2. The three carriers (=Hollstein, Dutuit 86-2). Slightly larger etching than from most Van Everdingen series: image 12.3 x 15.7 cm, outside the press edge and an average margin of 1 cm. Slightly light print, little contrast in the top half. Gray spot top left (from the print?). A very small brown dot on the back that is also visible in the top left image. Top right unintentional ink dots from the print.
