Arie Zwart - Landscape - Sold

Adrianus Johannes (Arie) Zwart (Rijswijk, August 30, 1903 - Laren, August 27, 1981) was a Dutch painter, who painted in the style of the Hague School. He painted many landscapes and still lifes. Adriaan Zwart was very versatile. Although his first work had a somewhat dark tone, his further work was light and often floral in tone. He was a prolific painter. He has lived in a caravan. He had 3 children. Later on, Zwart lived in the houseboat De Trekschuit, which he used to take a different berth each time to paint in that neighbourhood. He traveled a lot to Spain and France, among other places, to paint there as well. During the war years he lived with his family near Meppel. Later he lived in Alkmaar, Voorburg and Woerden. In 1974 he went to live with his wife in the Rosa Spier Huis (Laren). He died there in 1981.
