About the artist:
Born in Vlijmen. Bart van Oijen lives and works in Zutphen. He is the grandson of the Hoorn painter Wouter IJdo (Wouter Ydo), from whom he learned the first tricks of the trade in his early childhood. In the period 1970-1975, Van Oijen studied at the then Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem. After his education, he initially worked in an illustrative, often fairytale-like manner.
His realistic work underwent a change over the years. He gradually began to abstract his work, or even to say farewell to that reality entirely, by using only form and color. Coincidence played a role in this. He is currently mainly involved in lyrical abstract work. His techniques mainly include acrylic paint and mixed media on canvas and paper. In addition, he is involved in photography and animal drawings, an old love that keeps popping up. His abstract work usually has a subject from nature as a pictorial starting point, but often little remains of it while working.
Van Oijen uses few brushes and brushes; he has clearly found his own techniques, disregarding conventional methods, and confidently using old rags and his fingers to achieve the desired result. The artist's aim is to create something beautiful in shape and color. He is looking for the absolute beauty. He knows that this will always be his aim, but he also finds it fascinating about his profession. The recent work of Bart van Oijen is characterized by the warmth of Malta, and by the overwhelming silence and unspoilt nature of the Scottish Highlands. Bart van Oijen has exhibited in the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Spain, Portugal and Germany. He paints, draws, is engaged in photography, and he makes illustrations.

Van Oijen became a member of the Amersfoort Artists Association 'de Ploegh', and later also of the Hilversum artists' association 'de Kring'. He also joined the artists' association 'de Ring' in Amersfoort. He is no longer a member of any of the above associations; Bart van Oijen prefers to explore the possibilities in the visual arts on his own.
He recently joined the CBK Groningen.
