The tower's light reaches 30 nautical miles and the lantern has a luminous intensity of 5.2 million candelas. The base of the tower is formed by approximately 2.5 meter thick walls, which become thinner towards the top. It is painted with a red and white band that runs upwards in a spiral. This painting was only applied a century after construction as a warning for low-flying aircraft. The lighthouse's partly stone and partly iron staircase has 226 steps.
Lighthouse Westerlicht is no longer manned. The radar image is forwarded to the Coast Guard Post Ouddorp. The lighthouse is not open to the public.
