He was a student of the Amsterdam Drawing School for Art Crafts. After completing drawing school, he got a job as a decor painter in the city theater. On the advice of Breitner, Jac Eriks was enrolled in 1923 at the Rijks Akademie in Amsterdam, conducted by August Allebe and Antoon Derkinderen. As the crowning glory of his studies, he was awarded the State subsidy for young visual artists in 1923.
