Pieter dupont werd geboren te Amsterdam op 5 juli 1870 en overleed op nog jonge leeftijd te Hilversum op 7 februari 1911. Opgeleid aan de Kunstnijverheidsschool "Quellinus", de Rijksnormaalschool voor tekenonderwijzers en de Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst te Amsterdam. Leerling van Maurits van der Valk. Later was hij hoogleraar in de grafische kunst en had zeer veel leerlingen w.o. Dirk Harting, Piet van der Hem, Simon de Heer, Willem van Leusden en Toon de Jong. Werkte in Engeland, Parijs 1897, Nogent sur Marne 1900-1902 en Auvers sur Oise 1903.
