Interesting matter painting by Wietse Hoving. A composition of oil paint and probably polyurethane foam. Framed in a black studio frame.

Wietse Hoving was born on June 13, 1911 as the son of a tailor in Marum, Groningen. After completing primary school, he was employed by house painter 'Keutelie' Keuning in the city of Groningen. He had been taught by Jan van de Baan at the Evening Academy, who brought him into contact with the artist collective De Ploeg, which he joined.
His painting style changed in the mid-1960s. He started painting abstractly and soon applied materials he acquired on the construction sites where he still worked every day. Leveling paste, polyurethane foam, metal waste, polyester mats, wooden shell parts, everything he encountered found an aesthetic place on his canvases and panels. The techniques he had to use in his career as a house painter, such as marble, wood imitation, typesetting, gilding and silver plating, regularly appear on his canvases.
