Werkte behalve in Nederland in Londen, Venetië, San Francisco en Indonesië.
Was één van de zgn. Tachtigers en zeer bevriend met Georg Hendrik Breitner.
Schilder, aquarellist en graficus. Vooral bekend om zijn Amsterdamse stadsgezichten.
