Willy Fleur: according to the monograph 'A colorful Hague painter with an Eastern heart', almost all the flowers from the Meijer florist in the Reinkenstraat in The Hague have been painted by this 'pietje exactly'. In his still lifes hardly a flower species is missing: from lilacs to snowballs and daisies, anemones, chrysanthemums, gloxinias, etc., but Johan Willem (Willy) Fleur has painted more: tropical birds such as parrots, cockatoos and parakeets, exotic fish and Asian bazaars. In addition to these genres, inspired by the Far East, he painted landscapes, winter views, harbors, mostly in oil on canvas, sometimes with watercolors or pastels on paper. He lived in The Hague from 1912 until his death. He received his training at the Rotterdam Academy of Visual Arts with Huib Luns as a teacher and subsequently at the Hague Academy. Since its foundation in 1917, he has been an active member of the Dutch Art Circle in that city and exhibits there regularly. He also has exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, in the Koninklijke Kunstzaal Kleykamp and, even very frequently, in the Panorama Mesdag in the court city. Fleur is known for its regular high quality.
