Jan van GEEM (Spaarndam 1919 - ?? 1995
Van Geem is the son of a blacksmith in Spaarndam. He lives and works on Spaarndam all his life. Jan finds work in a factory in Haarlem and makes rollers for printing floor tarpaulins. Because of his artistic skills, he is allowed to work as an apprentice designer. He is taught by F.Drost and draftsman JBKamp, later by Kees Verweij. Van Geem develops into an independent painter. Spaarndam is his greatest source of inspiration. In particular, he has immortalized the village very much loved by him in many watercolors. From 1956 he is secretary and in 1968 a member of merit, in 1981 he receives the gold medal of the Order of Orange Nassau.
