Jopie Roosenburg-Goudriaan (1913-1997) Laureate Painting – Lived and worked in Eijsden
In 1942 Jopie Roosenburg-Goudriaan followed her fiancé and later husband, sculptor Teun Roosenburg, from Amsterdam to Eijsden in Limburg. He had found refuge in East Castle (later a breeding ground avant la lettre) from the grim war situation in Amsterdam. Jopie still paints in an academic, realistic style, which gradually becomes more Fauvist in the Limburg years. Striving for both personal and artistic freedom, she paints in predominantly pure colors with broad brushstrokes.
