Beautiful winter landscape with colored houses with unusually shaped chimneys.
Aleid Slingerland, born Jansen, was born on February 23, 1919 in Sommelsdijk on the (former) South Holland island of Goeree-Overflakkee. Around 1936 she was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, where the then court painter Herman Mees was her most inspiring teacher. Thanks to him she specialized in portrait painting, but out of relaxation she also started painting landscapes, buildings and flowers. Initially she was a fashion illustrator for 'Cinderella', an illustrated magazine for women at the time. She drew, painted in oil, and also made many watercolors. In 1948 she married Jo Slingerland, a flower bulb exporter in Bloemendaal, whom she often accompanied on his travels. In their house on Zandvoorterweg she had her own studio in the attic. She continued to live there until about eight years ago, due to declining health, she was admitted to a nursing home in the capital. She has commissioned portraits in traditional-figurative style, often also of famous people such as Princess Juliana, Godfried Bomans, Harry Mulisch, Adriaan Roland Holst, Anton Pieck, Leonard Bernstein, Martine Bijl, Sigrid Koetse, Jan Retel, Donald Jones, Neelie Smit. - Crucible. Furthermore, three of the four sons of Princess Margriet when they were still small, which children's portraits were created in the music room of Het Loo. A portrait of Queen Beatrix was purchased by the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, the effigy of the Bergen poet Roland Holst was purchased in 1976 by the province of North Holland for placement in the Provincial House.
