The French artist Armand Coussens (1881-1935) was a painter, engraver, illustrator and was best known for his color etchings. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nmes, after which he moved to Paris where he exhibited in the great salons of the time, such as the Societe des Artistes Francais. Coussens was a great promoter of color etchings which, despite the achievements of artists like Raffaelli in the previous generation, were still considered inferior to black and white. He died in Nîmes in 1935. His works are in collections all over the world, especially his etchings in soft ground colours.
