Information about the artist:
Dirk Herman Michael Harting born 08-03-1884 in Salatiga (Dutch East Indies) and died 28-08-1970 in Haarlem, graphic artist, painter, draftsman, etcher, lithographer, engraver (printmaker), graphic designer and print collector.
-Education: He initially studied to become a veterinarian at the Veterinary School in Utrecht, but transferred to the National Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam (1904-1910), where he mainly took lessons in graphic techniques. Student of Pieter Dupont and Willem Witsen.
-Dirk Harting was almost exclusively a graphic artist and especially an etcher. He also designed stamps and bookplates. For example, he designed stamps for the Dutch East Indies, Curaçao and Suriname. He also made lithographs and drawings and occasionally watercolors as well as oil paintings.
He lived and worked in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Heemstede and Haarlem and taught the artists RR van den Berg, M. Gans, WC Gerritsma, D. van Hessen, GJM Lutz, SA Velsen, DPH Wentzel and WA de Wijn.
-Dirk Harting was a member of the artist societies 'Arti et Amicitiae' and 'St. Lucas' in Amsterdam and from 'Pulchri Studio' in The Hague.
