- Ger Lataster (Schaesberg, 16 februari 1920) kan worden gerekend tot de abstracte expressionisten. Na zijn studie aan de Hogeschool voor Industriële Kunst in Maastricht studeerde hij vervolgens aan de Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
Lataster is in staat om het abstract expressionisme tot in het extreme toe te passen. Door gebruik te maken van contrasterende elementen, technieken en materialen weet hij de toeschouwer telkens weer te verrassen. Doordat Lataster deze technieken consequent toepast, komen zijn kunstwerken betrouwbaar over, hoe groot de veranderingen in de afgelopen jaren ook waren.
Bekende werken van Lataster zijn het schilderij 'Spelende kinderen' - gemaakt in 1954, in opdracht van de gemeente Heerlen - en de monumentale plafondschildering voor het Mauritshuis in Den Haag, Icarus Atlanticus, 1987-1988. Lataster is een van de meest succesvolle Nederlandse kunstenaars van zijn generatie.
