Gerard Schaperkotter (1914-2008).
This work and the other works in my collection are made by Gerard Schäperkötter and come from the artist's studio in Amstelveen. Schäperkötter's work is characterized by the alternation of lyrical abstraction and powerful use of color and is inspired by the expressionism of the Cobra movement and the Ecole de Paris, among others. His work has been exhibited in many museums and galleries in the Netherlands and abroad and can be found in the collections of, among others, the Cobra Museum, Museum Henriette Polak and Museum van Bommel van Dam.

Watercolor in passe-partout with back cover (folder).

Signature: bottom right.

Paper slightly wrinkled, which in my opinion can be remedied with good framing.

Additional information borrowed from the site of a large gallery: Gerard Schäperkötter was originally a graphic designer and in 1914 chose free painting. His approach to the medium was spontaneous and free and, after a figurative run-up, led to powerful compositions in the 1960s and 1970s. In their balancing between abstraction and figuration, these are somewhat reminiscent of the lyrical-abstract art of the Ecole de Paris. The painter created a new reality from his memory and imagination, which he often elaborated in themes such as beaches, walls or gardens. Museums: ao Museum Henriette Polak, Zutphen.
