Short biography. Gustave Bolin was born in Stocholm in 1920. However, he lived in Paris from 1921 and remained there despite some interruptions until his death in 1999. Gustave Bolin is a descendant of a family of goldsmiths who provided jewelry to the czars and the royal family of Sweden. During the interwar period, Gustave worked in the studio of the Fauvist Othon Friez. He then looks for inspiration and examples. In 1943 he went on a “pilgrimage” in the region of Aix in search of Cézanne. Then he returns to Paris to settle in the studio that Pierre Tal-Coat had loaned him, located in the Plaisance district. It was the time of his first meeting with Picasso and many artists in the cafes of Montparnasse, the Dôme and the Coupole, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the famous Café de Flore the war he met Tal Coat and Giacometti. In 1948 he has his first exhibition at Galerie Pierre Loeb in Paris. After that, many more will follow. His work is included in many museums and private collections around the world.
