Herman Verbaere - Stad Gent

Herman Verbaere is a Belgian artist who was born in 1905 in Wetteren and who died in 1993 in Zottegem. He was a painter, draughtsman, watercolorist, lithographer and designer of posters and stamps. Education at the Academy in Wetteren led by P. Böss, at the Academy in Ghent led by De Boever and O. Coddron. Found his inspiration mainly in the Flemish villages and along the Scheldt, but also in the Kempen and on the coast and in Zeeland. Worked as a painter with broad strokes of paint and over the years the paint layer became thinner. Also gained fame as a designer of tourist posters. Was a teacher at the Academy in Wetteren. Work in the Museum in Ghent, among others.
