I am offering these two watercolors by Hermanus Koekkoek de Jr (1836). Work is signed ro and lo.o with L. van Staaten, this is a pseudonym he used during his period in London. Both watercolors are in a very good condition, no stains or discolourations, etc. visible. The colors have also remained very nice. Please note: this is an original work and not a reproduction, lithograph or the like!
Dimensions watercolors: 54x35 cm both in frame (77x58)
Hermanus Jr. was a student of his father Hermanus Sr. Lived and worked in Amsterdam and Nieuwer-Amstel. From the 1960s he regularly stayed in London, where he settled permanently in 1869 and opened an art dealership in 1880. In addition to his own work, Hermanus Jr. sold a lot of work from relatives in England, including his father and his uncle BC Koekkoek.
He mainly painted sea, river and beach views; also worked in England under the pseudonyms 'Jan van Couver' and 'L. of States'. Hermanus Jr. has collaborated with the landscape painter Lion Schulman in both England and the Netherlands. Around 1880 his work becomes less romantic and the influence of the 'Hague School' is recognizable.
