Hubert van Hille - Stilleven - Sold

Hubert van Hille (1903-1983) worked in an expressionist realistic style. This oil painting immediately stands out because of its unusual quirky composition and startling color scheme. Van Hille's work is included in the collections of various museums, such as the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller and the Stedelijk Museum Zutphen. The tonal use of color in this still life with newspapers, a book, two cups and a saucer creates unity in the image. The artist then beautifully contrasts harder and brighter colors against an otherwise calm background. The painting is framed in its original/original frame (with original labels) and ready to hang on the wall. Hubert van Hille was born on Ambon in Indonesia, but returned to the Netherlands in 1911 with his parents. Van Hille grew up in Zutphen and would then move to Utrecht to study law at the university. In the end he would choose the uncertain existence of being an artist and after the Second World War he would join the Twente artists' collective De Nieuwe Groep.
