Maïté Duval werd geboren in Renazé en studeerde letterkunde aan de Universiteit van Rouen. Ze volgde geen opleiding in de beeldende kunst en is op dat gebied dus autodidact. Zij verhuisde in 1968 naar Nederland, waar zij in 1974 haar carrière als beeldhouwster aanving. Duval stelde haar werk tentoon tijdens vele solo- en groepsexposities, onder andere Den Haag Sculptuur 2003 (modelvrouwen) in Den Haag en Auxiliatrixpark 2005 (met Paula in kamerjas en Ainsi soit-elle) in Venlo.
De kunstenares woont en werkt in Zutphen, waar zij haar werk toont in atelier en eigen beeldentuin. Zij was (tot diens overlijden in 1999) getrouwd met de - eveneens in Frankrijk geboren - kunstschilder Thierry Rijkhart de Voogd.
