The collection period, if paid in advance, is very long, in other words the buyer can collect the work weeks or even months later and, if possible, combine it with a visit to one of the above-mentioned cities or the beach. After his education, Peter Donkersloot worked as a freelance illustrator for publishers and advertising agencies. In his spare time he painted and combined it with his work. But at the end of 1987 he discovered that work and ambition were no longer compatible and forced himself to make a choice. Despite the fact that he already functioned as a top illustrator at a young age, he came to the conclusion and gave up his reasonably secure position for an uncertain existence as a visual artist. He paints according to an old so-called 'layer upon layer' tradition. These transparent layers give a depth effect and create warm colors that you cannot get ready-made from a tube. 'Old masters' worked in a similar way, but often had to wait weeks before they could paint over a layer, as their often home-made oil-based paint took weeks to dry. Many contemporary painters work with modern fast-drying water-based acrylic paints to achieve the same effect. Donkersloot makes extensive use of mono and paint prints, both of which are produced on canvas. The monoprint is best described as a combination of a painting and a screen print. After painting a background, Donkersloot chooses a portrait or image and partially prints his painted background with it. The paint print comes closest to the original painting, but in this case the image has been digitally manipulated. It is possible to play with the color, contrast and size.
