Rik van Iersel
Dutch artist, self-taught, born in Maastricht 18-08-1961, lives and works in Eindhoven.
He has a series of exhibitions behind him, each with unique catalogues. Van Iersel is very curious about materials, media and life itself. At the age of eighteen, he designed posters for pop concerts at the Effenaar. He draws comics, plays the drums in Der Junge Hund and makes his first large, colorful expressionist paintings, which immediately led to a solo exhibition at Galerie Willy Schoots. In the years that followed, Rik van Iersel exhibited in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, New York and San Francisco.
The work of Rik van Iersel can be called expressionist, namely expressing an image of a tangible reality or situation formed in the artist's inner self. The personal aspect that underlies this makes it difficult to classify artists under one heading. Rik van Iersel develops his own handwriting, but his style remains subject to change. He works quickly and spontaneously. Painting takes place as a process in which forms continuously arise that evoke ideas and memories. Van Iersel is a traditional painter in subject and technique.
