Robert Zandvliet (Terband, 1970) is a Dutch painter of contemporary art and exhibits at home and abroad.

Biography
From 1987 to 1992, Zandvliet trained at the Christian Academy for Visual Arts in Kampen (later ArtEZ Art & Design Zwolle) and from 1992 to 1994 at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. He won the Prix de Rome in 1994: from then on he regularly exhibited at home and abroad.
Work
In the mid-1990s, Zandvliet was active in depicting everyday objects such as hairpins, a television or a camera. After 1996 he concentrated on painting landscapes, including overhead views of highways. These landscapes are abstract and often have no horizon. Zandvliet uses tempera paint, after studying the old Italian frescoes, which were also painted with tempera paint. When working with tempera paint, it is not possible to paint over parts because tempera is so transparent that underlying layers remain visible.
