Information about the artist:
Sylvia Weve (Utrecht, May 28, 1954) is a Dutch illustrator.
-Education: In 1976 she completed her education at the Arnhem Academy of Visual Arts (graphic design department).
Sylvia Weve was born in Utrecht but grew up in Roosendaal. She has lived in Amsterdam since 1978.
After working for various newspapers and magazines, the first children's book illustrated by her was published in 1980, “Een noom op school”. She has now illustrated more than two hundred mainly children's books and made countless drawings for, among others, de Volkskrant, Playboy, Opzij, Libelle, Skoop, Vrij Nederland, the Holland Festival and Milieudefensie. From 1986 to 1993 she taught illustrative design at the Arnhem Academy of Visual Arts.
-Awards: Sylvia Weve won the ' Zilveren Penseel ' in 1984, 1991 and 2013, the second prize for the best illustrated children's book, awarded by the CPNB Foundation.
In 1998 and 2007 she received a 'Vlag en Wimpel', the third prize for the best illustrated children's book, awarded by the CPNB Foundation. Since 2022, this prize has been called 'De Bronzen Griffel'.
