Artist: Thomas van Heck [1910-2006] was born in Dordrecht and started drawing and painting at an early age. We can call him the last Dordrecht impressionist and Master of De Biesbosch. In his early period he painted a lot in his hometown. Later he wandered on his ship "de Schilder" with his wife Neeltje through the Biesbosch for about 40 years. This charmed him so much that some also called him The Biesbosch Painter. Thomas van Heck lived with his wife Neeltje every year from March to October on his boat "de Schilder". He has not only captured all the seasons in the Biesbosch on canvas, but also the atmosphere at any time of the day. The creeks, the loggers, the pilot whales, the fishermen and the polder landscapes, Thomas van Heck has painted everything and drawn it for the future. Partly due to his use of color and his passion, his work can be distinguished from his peers and fellow painters. His work is notable for its unique style of painting. In his memory, his beautiful legacy as he left it is in the museum in Brasschaat, Belgium. It was his clear desire to convey his feelings to others through his work.
