Thomas van Heck [1910-2006] was born in Dordrecht and started drawing and painting at a young age. We can call him the last Dordrecht impressionist and Master of De Biesbosch. In his early period he painted a lot in his hometown. Preferably in winter. As a result, much of old Dordrecht has been preserved, places that have not existed for years. Later he roamed the Biesbosch on his ship "de Schilder" together with his wife Neeltje for about 40 years. This charmed him so much that some called him De Biesboschschilder. His exhibitions have always attracted many visitors. He did not want to be called an artist, but a hard worker. He was both, however, a special man with a special gift. Thomas van Heck lived with his wife Neeltje every year from March to October on his boat "de Schilder". He not only captured all seasons in the Biesbosch on canvas, but also the atmosphere at every moment of the day. The creeks, the loggers, the pilot whales, the fishermen and the polder landscapes, Thomas van Heck has painted and drawn everything for the future. He also made figurines of clay from the Biesbosch. Until a very old age, the development of painting towards nature continued. Partly because of the use of color and his passion, his work can be distinguished from his peers and fellow painters. His work is notable for its idiosyncratic painting. In his memory, his magnificent legacy, as he left it, can be found in the museum in Brasschaat, Belgium. It was his clear desire to convey his feelings to others through his work.
