Willem Snitker (1938-2015) was sinds 1960 werkzaam als beeldend kunstenaar. Hij reisde veel en trok tekenend en schetsend door Frankrijk, Italië, Spanje en de Balkan.
Met de uitvoering van allerlei creatieve ideeën droeg hij onvermoeibaar en geestdriftig bij aan de cultuur in zijn woonplaats Heemstede, waar met zijn galerie een bijzondere bijdrage leverde aan de kunstpromotie.
Snitker illustreerde o.a. boeken van An Rutgers van der Loeff, Bert Schierbeek, Bertus Aafjes, F.L.Bastet, Harrië Laurey, Jan Elburg, Willem van Toorn en Gerrit Achterberg.
Thema’s van zijn werk waren: portretten, stierengevechten, circus, paarden, ruiters en maatschappelijke motieven. Geleidelijk ontwikkelde hij zich in de richting van abstract expressionisme.
