David Hockney (1937)

Artist

David HOCKNEY (1937 Bradford)

painter, graphic artist, photography and drawings

Education:
Hockney was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in London. David Hockney is an English artist and one of the most famous representatives of Pop Art. David Hockney's early works have a strong anecdotal character, notable for their ironic humour.

In 1964 David Hockney settled in California, where he developed a more realistic style of painting. The main themes during this time were swimming pools, portraits and landscapes. From 1966 David Hockney increasingly used photographs for his paintings. In the 1970s, the artist also came out with collages, which consisted entirely of photographs. In many of these works, a situation is viewed from different points of view to accentuate movement.

After 1980, David Hockney's work took on a more expressionistic character. His paintings clearly showed his interest in other artists such as Pablo Picasso. Hockney is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
