    Information about the artist:
    An Goedewagen-Beerman , born 09-12-1928 in Teloek Bajoer (Borneo, Indonesia) and died 10-07-2014 in Andelst (Overbetuwe, Gelderland), painter.
    -Education: Rijksnormaalschool, Amsterdam (1946) and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten Amsterdam (1947-1950).
    -Style: Her work is sometimes characterized as poetic realism or poetic expressionism.
    She painted figuratively with a poetic brushwork her very own still and penetrating reality.
    An Beerman was inspired by everyday life. In her work, children, adults, animals and the landscape formed the narrative character of her paintings. The scenes seem taken from real life, but in her imagination they take on something wonderful. Her artworks often have a humorous undertone, but more often an atmosphere of stillness and melancholy predominates. The expression of the faces makes it seem as if An Beerman wants the viewer to look into her field of view, in such a way that the atmosphere can be felt.
    -A selection of her oeuvre was on display in April and May 2015 at the Museum of Modern Art in Arnhem.
