This painting was exhibited during the exhibition “Our art of today”, an exhibition in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam from November 18, 1939 to February 29, 1940.
- Provenance: from the art collection of Brentano , an organization that owes its existence to Josephus Augustinus Brentano (Amsterdam, August 28, 1753 - Amsterdam, April 16, 1821), a Dutch Catholic merchant of Italian descent, art collector, patron and philanthropist.
- Condition: The work is in good condition with some light craquelure. The frame has wear spots.

Together with Elsa van Doesburgh (1875-1957) and Marie Wandscheer (1855-1936), Josefa Tepe was one of the external followers of the ' Amsterdamse Joffers ', female painters trained at the art academy who, at the end of the 19th century, established themselves as professional group in the male-dominated Amsterdam art scene.
Josefa Tepe was a member of the St. Lucas artists' association.
